Q. Is InterLoom a product?
InterLoom, in its core form, can be considered a software product. However, a complete InterLoom solution involves the interworking of the core InterLoom software, development methodology and network services. Each instantiation of InterLoom offers a foundational set of code and functions that serve as the framework for all Web sites. But the flexible and highly customizable nature of InterLoom requires that developers assemble existing components or, in some cases, create new ones. Through InterLoom's extensible architecture and component library, highly complex solutions can be created rapidly, drastically reducing development timeframes for businesses.

Q. What kinds of business problems can InterLoom address?
As an e-business solution, InterLoom can help you meet a variety of business needs. Examples of business solutions include: Web site content management, IT Help Desk, knowledge management, integration of backend financial services packages, Human Resources forms processing and deployment of intranets and intranet services.

Q. What kinds of skills does my staff need in order to use InterLoom?
InterLoom is simple enough for the technology novice yet robust enough for the highly experienced developer. Knowledge workers and content contributors with little Web development skills can easily publish and manage information through InterLoom's familiar WYSIWYG interface. Otherwise complex functions, such as user administration and file resource management, are accomplished in point-and-click fashion.

Q. What kind of third-party applications can be integrated with InterLoom? Can InterLoom integrate with legacy systems?
Any third-party or legacy application that can expose its services with a Java API can be easily integrated with InterLoom. InterLoom objects are created to capture data from these services and then made available to InterLoom users. InterLoom can also update third-party or legacy systems with data captured with InterLoom beans. Even if a native Java API is unavailable, other third-party products or data capture techniques can expose legacy systems to InterLoom.

Q. Can we convert our existing Web site into InterLoom?
Yes. Our InterLoom developers evaluate your existing Web site structure and proceed to design an architecture that is template-driven, rather than page-driven. This approach to Web development allows you to maintain visual and content standards throughout your Web site, no matter how complex it becomes over time. Beyond visual and content presentation, InterLoom developers evaluate your backend databases and applications and find the most efficient methods of integrating them into your total e-business solution.

Q. What platforms can I implement this on?
InterLoom requires a Java application server, database server and LDAP server. InterLoom can be deployed on any Java application server. Current implementations include WebLogic, WebSphere, Tomcat and Resin. Currently InterLoom requires DB2 as the core database but InterLoom beans can query any JDBC-compliant external database. InterLoom can run on Windows 2000, Linux and AIX.

Q. Do we get support?
Customer support is built into the total InterLoom solution. This includes training, documentation and help desk.

Q. Do we get upgrades?
The DataHouse product development team is constantly researching and improving the InterLoom product, and we pass these improvements onto our customers. This is a key InterLoom advantage. Free upgrades are included in the standard licensing agreement.

Q. If DataHouse creates new objects or extensions on other projects, can those be made available for other customers?
Yes, if they are developed solely by DataHouse. Co-development of InterLoom objects and extensions with customers implies that any intellectual property developed with those customers are also under their control. For available extensions and objects, our business and systems analysts can determine which are most appropriate for each project.

Q. How much system administration is involved?
The level of administrative involvement can be decided by the customer. In a Nettricity®-hosted solution, administration of the application can be done by the customer via InterLoom's System Manager or by DataHouse. The System Manager can also administer a Web application hosted on-site by the customer.
