Makati Life Medical Center

Transforming Hospital Operations with a Unified HIS Platform

Overview

Makati Life Medical Center, a next-generation hospital in the Philippines operating under a public-private partnership model, partnered with DataHouse to implement a comprehensive Hospital Information System (HIS).

Amid rising patient volumes and growing operational complexity, the hospital moved away from fragmented legacy systems toward VizHIS, establishing a unified, data-driven ecosystem that enhances efficiency, coordination, and supports its vision of accessible, technology-enabled, patient-centered care.

Objective

Implement VizHIS as the unified clinical platform and VizERP as the operational backbone for Makati Life Medical Center.

Eliminate fragmented workflows by integrating all departments on a single platform.

Equip hospital leadership with real-time dashboards for informed, data-driven decision-making.

Reduce manual errors and delays across billing, pharmacy, and inventory management.

Establish the infrastructure for a smart, scalable, and human-centered hospital of the future.

Client Background

Industry

Healthcare / Hospital Services

Organization

Makati Life Medical Center is a state-of-the-art Level 2 hospital located in Barangay Bel-Air, Makati City, Philippines. Designed as a 360-bed, 14-story tertiary-level healthcare facility, the hospital was established through a public-private partnership between the City Government of Makati and LifeNurture Inc.

MLMC delivers comprehensive, advanced medical services across inpatient, outpatient, emergency, pharmacy, and administrative functions — including specialized cancer care, cardiac services, and robotic-assisted physical rehabilitation. As a next-generation institution serving a broad urban population, the hospital was purpose-built for technology-enabled, patient-centered care at scale.

Challenge

Problem Statement

As Makati Life Medical Center grew in patient volume and operational complexity, the limitations of its traditional, siloed systems became increasingly apparent.

Clinical, administrative, and financial data were managed across disconnected platforms, resulting in coordination gaps, delayed workflows, and inconsistent data visibility across departments.

Manual processes in registration, billing, pharmacy, and inventory introduced errors and bottlenecks that directly impacted care delivery timelines.

Impact

  • Inefficient manual workflows slowed patient registration, discharge, billing, and pharmacy processes, increasing errors.
  • Siloed systems led to poor coordination between clinical and administrative teams.
  • Limited data visibility hindered timely reporting, decision-making, and the hospital’s ability to scale effectively.

Solution

A unified digital ecosystem — from bedside to back office

DataHouse proposed a comprehensive, end-to-end Hospital Information System tailored for Makati Life Medical Center. The solution centers on VizHIS, a fully integrated clinical management platform, complemented by VizERP for back-office operations. Together, these systems create a unified digital ecosystem connecting every touchpoint of the patient journey and hospital operations.

Key Features

End-to-end patient journey management — automating registration, consultation, inpatient management, discharge, and patient portal access. All patient information is centrally recorded, enabling seamless, coordinated care delivery.

Real-time integrated data flow — clinical and operational data shared instantly across all departments, reducing errors and improving care coordination at every touchpoint.

Finance and HR integration via VizERP — connecting clinical workflows with financial and human resources management to synchronize data flows, ensure accuracy, and automate accounting operations across the organization.

Optimized billing, pharmacy, and inventory modules — designed to automate routine transactions, minimize manual errors, and improve financial transparency across procurement and resource management.

Scalable, modular architecture — enabling MLMC to expand services and facilities seamlessly, with infrastructure ready for AI-driven analytics and future smart hospital innovations.

PhilHealth e-Claims system — enabling hospitals to submit insurance reimbursement requests online, directly from within clinical workflows, without manual re-entry or third-party tools.

Implementation

Phased rollout, zero disruption

VizHIS was deployed through a structured phased rollout — beginning with core modules (registration, consultation, and medical records) and progressively expanding to billing, pharmacy, and inventory management. Staff across all departments received comprehensive training to ensure confident adoption from day one.

VizHIS and VizERP were fully synchronized so that clinical, financial, and HR data flows in real time — eliminating silos entirely. The system was configured with role-based access controls, tailored clinical workflows, and executive leadership dashboards, ensuring every user has the interface and information they need to operate efficiently.

Cloud infrastructure powered by AWS

As an AWS Advanced Tier Services Partner, DataHouse brings validated cloud architecture expertise directly to healthcare deployments. VizHIS leverages AWS managed services for its cloud infrastructure layer — providing MLMC with the reliability, security posture, and elastic scalability of enterprise cloud, without on-premise hardware investment.

Outcome

A future-ready foundation for smart hospital care

Enhanced patient throughput — the entire care cycle from registration to discharge is accelerated through streamlined treatment coordination and administrative processing.

Operational precision and control — minimized billing and pharmacy errors, with superior financial transparency across procurement and resource management.

Unified, scalable foundation — improved cross-departmental synergy through real-time data sharing on infrastructure built for long-term digital growth.

Insurance compliance and faster reimbursement — PhilHealth e-Claims integration reduces claim errors, shortens payment cycles, and ensures full regulatory compliance under the Universal Health Care Act.

AI-ready infrastructure — the architecture is designed to support future smart hospital innovations, including predictive analytics and automated clinical decision support.

DataHouse delivers a comprehensive solution that seamlessly integrates all these services into a single, unified network, enabling smooth coordination, improved efficiency, and a consistent user experience across the entire system.
